Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry helps to provide a relaxing experience for anyone who might experience anxiety while receiving dental treatment.

  • Can be used for a variety of treatments and examinations
  • Relaxes patients for their procedure
  • Helps us to create a trusting relationship with our patients

What is the Benefit of this Treatment to me?
We devote a lot of time and effort to allow our clients to become comfortable and build up trust in us.
If, however, you still feel anxious and would like the benefit of being in a dream like state then there is always sedation. With around 30% of the population suffering from dental phobia, it is important that people have these options to ease the experience for them. Sedation can be used to carry out treatment on patients who are nervous. At Integrated Dentalcare we offer intravenous (IV) sedation.

This is administered by our specialist oral surgeon giving you the added peace of mind having one surgeon monitoring and maintaining your relaxed state whilst the other one transforms your mouth into a more beautiful and healthy environment.

Intravenous sedation is a reliable and effective means of producing a relaxed state with a rapid onset of action. Additionally, an amnesic effect is achieved which affects only the memory of that procedure and for a short time afterwards. According to our specialist, “it is similar to being drunk after a bottle of whiskey or gin, but without the hangover the next day”.

What is sedation?

Sedation is a process used to relax and calm patients before procedures that make them anxious. Sedative drugs can include tranquilisers, anti-anxiety medication, depressants, nitrous oxide etc., and can be delivered in a range of ways. Previously IV sedation was mostly used, however patients have noticeably begun opting for needle-free options, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

What are the benefits of sedation?

A major benefit that has been revealed thanks to sedation dentistry is that many feel that their procedure only lasted a few minutes, when it might have lasted hours.

Also, many have found that sedation dentistry improves people’s relationship with visiting the dentist and encourages those with phobias to visit more often. It also helps people feel more comfortable about having procedures done that they would usually be too worried about.

I was looking for a holistic dentist who could offer a metal free implant, i.e. a zirconium implant. As a result of Neeraj Puri using laser technology during the treatment I found that there was almost no swelling and very little pain immediately after the dental surgery. After having had dental work over a number of years with other dentists, I can honestly say that Neeraj’s advice and technical ability is second to none. As a result, I now have a metal free zirconium implant which is functioning perfectly and has fully integrated into my jaw just like a natural tooth.

Not been to the dentist for a while?
Many people avoid visiting the dentist for as long as possible due to their fear - which may have stemmed from previous issues at a dentist’s office.

We spend lots of time and effort making sure our patients feel comfortable and build trust with us, as we want you to enjoy coming to the dentist as much as possible. Call us today to find out more 0131 225 9093.
